There are several ways to get over a failed relationship. Some people try therapy, others go on vacation. Kempo decided to write a song — a Sad Song.
Scheduled for release on November 26, Sad Song is produced by Cocojamzmusik out of Austin, Texas. It is one of the singles on the Loving Colors ‘riddim’ released on October 31.
“It’s (Sad Song) is based on a real-life situation, something I had gone through and it was a little bit rocky for me to get focused again,” said Kempo. “I wanted people who would have gone through something similar to have something solid as a foundation to move on.”
Kempo is from Montego Bay which is the hub for the hottest acts in contemporary dancehall music. He hails from the tough town of Salt Spring.
Tommy Lee Sparta, Squash and DJ Frass are some of the other acts who have made the resort city ground zero for dancehall in Jamaica.
Strongly influenced by Ini Kamoze and his uncle, keyboardist Earl “Wya” Lindo of The Wailers, Kempo has been recording for the past five years. He dislikes labels and shuns being tagged a deejay.
“I’m just a creative person who is very much passionate about what I do and I tend to put that in the music,” he said.
Sad Song is the second release on the Loving Colors. The first was Gyal Flex by Maestro Don.
