The last time Pluto Shervington performed at Sport of Kings Theater at Gulfstream racetrack in Hallandale, South Florida, he celebrated his 50th anniversary in the music business. He returns there February 12 for what promoters expect to be another winning run.

Dubbed Pluto & Friends, the event has a similar format to the show that was held in February, 2020. The singer/songwriter will share the stage with contemporaries including Boris Gardiner, Ernie Smith and Third World as well as Chalice and J C Lodge.

Tyrone Robertson, co-promoter of the show, is expecting another strong turnout from the Jamaican Diaspora.

“By design, attendees of last year’s show represented primarily members of the Caribbean diaspora and friends of the Diaspora. A majority of the audience were Jamaicans living in South Florida; however, many attendees were visiting from Canada, (Washington) DC, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, North and Central Florida, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. With an estimated ratio of 60 per cent female to 40 per cent male, the age range was very broad from 35 years-old to 80 years-old. We expect the demographic of Pluto & Friends 2022 to be similar to that of the previous staging,” he said.

The inaugural show was one of the last major reggae events before Covid-19 forced a global lockdown. It attracted a capacity audience which reveled in music, mainly from the 1970’s when Shervington enjoyed his greatest success with songs like I Man Born Yah and Dat.

Robertson and co-promoter Marco Brown ensured Shervington would be complemented by a strong cast which included Gardiner, Smith, Third World, Inner Circle and Carlene Davis.

With the pandemic still lurking, he vowed that no stone will be left unturned to ensure safety for artistes, crew and patrons.

“There will be a few clear messages. Safety first, COVID-19 protocols will be implemented. Verification of vaccines, on-site rapid testing and hand-sanitizing stations,” said Robertson.
