Producer Sharon King is scouting talent for her off-Broadway play, ‘Follow De Drum’.—
Sharon Tsahai King Productions Inc is conducting auditions in Jamaica for multiple roles in the off-Broadway play Follow De Drum, described as an African-Caribbean musical dramedy.
King, a Jamaican who migrated to the US when she was 11, has majored in classical and black theatre. She says that Follow De Drum is her love letter to the island.
A two-part audition process is now under way via an online process, but the writer-producer is not playing the waiting game, she is hitting the road as she scouts for talent. On her list are areas such as Kencot, Trench Town and Rockfort as she seeks out the “ordinary Jamaican with natural talent” to audition on the spot.
For the online auditions, the deadline for submissions has been extended to December 16. Those who are interested are asked to visit the website www.stkpinc.com, become familiar with role descriptions and choose a role to audition for. “A saved copy of your videotaped audition accompanied by a headshot/picture, along with contact info and performing arts resume, if available, should be attached,” King said.
Follow De Drum is “an inspirational story about two young men, whose shared childhood suffering creates a bond between them beyond blood ties. A bond eventually tested by time, distance, differing political backgrounds and opportunities; then broken by fear-fuelled, misplaced loyalty and spillt blood”.
