Big Mountain is scheduled to kick off its most expansive United States tour in some time, with a gig at the Blue Martini Lounge in Brickell, Miami on January 23. The shows, 19, in all, will be to promote the California band’s album, Freedom, which was released in August.
Quino McWhinney, co-founder, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist for Big Mountain, said he and his colleagues are looking forward to the shows which are scheduled to end March 26 and 27 in Venice and Oakland, California, respectively.
The band will also perform in South Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Indiana, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, New York and Massachusetts.
“Yes, it’s been a while since we’ve attempted something like this but the band is super-excited. We really enjoy each other’s company. My brother James is back in the lineup. This is essentially the band that I worked so hard to pull together back in 1999,” said Quino.
Freedom was largely recorded at Anchor Studios in Kingston, Jamaica. It is produced by Delroy “Fatta” Pottinger, senior engineer at that facility for many years.
It includes a cover of the Eagles’ Hotel California and the title song which features Michael Rose.
Formed in San Diego during the late 1980s, Big Mountain are best known for the 1994 hit song, Baby I Love Your Way, which entered the Top 10 of Billboard Magazine’s pop chart. It was originally done by British singer Peter Frampton.
The band’s lineup also includes Quino’s younger brother James on vocals and percussion; drummer Paul Kastick, guitarist Audley Chisholm, bassist Mike Ortiz and keyboardist Richard Campbell.
