When Ricky D Lova kicked off his career as a music producer in the late 1990’s, he worked with some of the hottest dancehall artists. Over time, he discovered that big names come with big egos.
For his latest project, Little Lane Riddim, he called on acts who appeared on Should Have Known Better, his previous compilation album. Those artists include Milton Blake who does Gwaan So and J.R. Blessington whose song on the Little Lane is Naked Outa Road. Ricky D Lova contributes Time Up to the album.
“I’m more comfortable working with these artists because they are easier to deal with. Sometimes with big artists they never show up on time to voice or you can never reach them. With a J.R. Blessington it’s like A, B, C,” said Ricky D Lova.
He and Blake have been friends for many years. They first met while both were living in Central Village, a rugged area on the outskirts of Kingston, Jamaica’s capital.
It was through Blake that he met Blessington, who also lives in the United States.
Based in Florida for almost 30 years, Ricky D Lova began recording as a singjay while living in Jamaica. He continued his career after migrating to the US.
His first crack at producing was a joint ‘riddim’ called the Mongrel. He has also produced songs by Harry Toddler and Elephant Man, Mad Cobra and Lukie D. Other songs on the Little Lane Riddim are All I Need by Keegan and Free Up Dancehall by Don Mafia.
