Covid -19 put many artists’ career on hold but for deejay King X, the economic and social lockdowns caused by the deadly pandemic were game-changers.
The Hartford, Connecticut-based artist recorded his first song 15 years ago and has released several singles in the interim. During the two-year uncertainties of Covid, he got an epiphany.
“I recorded my first song in 2007 but I didn’t take it (music) seriously until two years ago. The pandemic gave me clarity that this where my true passion resides,” said King X.

On March 25, that passion comes full circle with the release of Ya Girl Favorite X, his debut EP. It has eight songs including Wonder, the lead single. Promotion on the project is on in earnest with three videos already produced. A follow-up song, Questions, is also in the wings.

King X is from Whitfield Town, a tough inner-city community in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital. Influenced by Vybz Kartel, Busy Signal and Masicka, he has recorded sporadically over the years for different producers.
On Ya Girl Favorite X, he went all out to show his versatility.
“My sound is different, it’s evolving each and every day. Only thing that remains consistent is witty lyrics with creative melodies,” he said.
