Regarded as Jamaica’s busiest show bands, the Fabulous 5 were forced to drop anchor for the past two years because of Covid-19 lockdowns. They return to South Florida on May 28 for the Pluto and Friends show at Sport of Kings Theater, Gulfstream Racetrack.

Frankie Campbell, Fab 5’s bass player and manager, said things are looking up after the prolonged absence.
“This is Fab 5’s first show to the USA; we went to Anguilla two weeks ago, the first trip in over two years. It feels great to be getting back on the road, and travelling to the USA and Florida is always very special, seeing our family, friends and fans again,” he said.

Next month’s show was initially scheduled for February but promoters were forced to postpone due to the threat of the Omicron Variant. The inaugural Pluto And Friends was held in February, 2020.
Pluto Shervington, a Fab 5 contemporary, will again headline the event. Boris Gardiner, Ernie Smith, J C Lodge, Chalice and the Code Red Band complete the lineup.

The Fabulous 5 in 1971

Formed in 1970, Fab 5 are one of few surviving Jamaican bands from that era. They backed Johnny Nash on some of the songs from his 1972 album, I Can See Clearly Now, and recorded a flurry of soca hits in the 1980’s such as Ring Road Jam and Feeling Horny.
Campbell, drummer/vocalist Grub Cooper and guitarist Junior Bailey are the band’s stalwart members. He foresees a fruitful 2022. “The bookings are coming in but it takes between two to four months to plan a function using Fab 5, so we will start working a lot after May. The summer looks great as long as everything remains as is,” said Campbell.
