Ten years is a long time for any artist to have an unreleased song. Especially one they believe has the goods to become a hit. That’s exactly how singjay Determine feels about Mi Nuh Do Dat, a single he wrote and first recorded in 2012 in Queens, New York.
It was finally released in March and is the first song from the Rastafarian artist’s company, Sandy Lane Production.”Bwoy, is like a relief. Is like everything come together an’ wi mek things happen,” said Determine, who most dancehall fans associate with Kette Drum, his 1995 hit song with Beenie Man.
After recording for numerous producers, Determine felt the time was right to launch his production company which is named for his hometown in St. Mary parish, Jamaica. “Everything is under one umbrella… recording, publishing, everything. Wi want to different type of songs… everything jus’ fresh,” Determine declared.
Produced by Bobby Digital, Kette Drum was the third song released by Determine who went on to work with Stephen Marley. The Nyabinghi-inspired single was among several hits on the ‘riddim’ of the same name, others being Holy Mount Zion by Cocoa Tea and Buju Banton’s ‘Til I’m Laid to Rest.
