VETERAN reggae acts Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff storm their way onto this week’s sales- and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Tosh’s Complete: Captured Live, a 15-song live set recorded in 1983 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California, makes its way onto the reggae chart at number two.
This is Tosh’s sixth entry on this chart, which dates back to his very first entry in 1997 with Honorary Citizen that shot to number five. Tosh’s last entry was Super Hits, which reached number seven in 2002.
Complete: Captured Live was released in 1984 when it peaked at number 152 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.
Jimmy Cliff’s Follow My Mind debuts at 10 on this week’s tally, giving the legendary singer his eighth entry. His first entry on this chart was Jimmy Cliff: Ultimate Collection which topped out at number eight in 2000. Follow My Mind was first released in 1975 and peaked at number 195 on the Billboard 200.
Elsewhere on this week’s Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers clock 121 weeks in the number one spot with Legend while Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy slips one rung down to three.
UB40’s Greatest Hits is at number four, while World on Fire and Set in Stone by Stick Figure are five and six, respectively.
Koffee’s Gifted dips to seven while Sean Paul pulls a double punch with The Trinity and Dutty Rock re-entering at eight and nine, respectively.
On regional charts, Valley by Richie Stephens spends a fourth week at the top of the New York Foundation Radio Network music chart.
You Make Me Feel Brand New by Marcia Griffiths and Leroy Sibbles spends a second week at number one on the South Florida Reggae chart.
Chart Trivia
Did you know that two of the acts currently appearing on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart were on the chart at the same time 26 years ago?
On the chart dated May 4, 1996 Shaggy’s Boombastic was spending its 41st week at number one while Natural Mystic by Bob Marley and the Wailers held down the number two spot.
Other well known acts who were also on the chart 26 years ago included Buju Banton (number three with Til Shiloh), Patra (number six with Scent of Attraction), Capleton (at number seven with Prophecy), Inner Circle (at number eight with Bad Boys) and Diana King (at 10 with Tougher than Love).
