There are maybe more songs about relationships gone sour than happy ones. Kashief Lindo has done his share of both, but admits the tear-jerkers seem to resonate more with fans.
He hopes his latest song, See You in Your Arms Tonight, will connect with the lovelorn as well as fans who are just drawn to a good song.
“The song looks at something that happens pretty often in relationships. It’s a pretty simple song and many people out there can relate to it,” Lindo told the Jamaica Observer.
See You in Your Arms Tonight, which deals with a strained relationship, was first recorded in 1999 for producer Lloyd Campbell. Lindo’s matured vocals, a fresh ‘riddim’ and his father Willie Lindo as producer, are the differences this time around.
It is the latest release from Love On, the singer’s album, which was released last October by Heavy Beat Records, the independent company the Lindo family has operated for over 40 years.
Love On has 14 songs including 12 originals. The covers are James Brown’s Prisoner of Love and Goodbye Now Forever, a ska song made popular in Jamaica by The Clarendonians.
It is Kashief Lindo’s first album in nine years. During the interim, he continued to record songs for Heavy Beat and was determined the project should be strong all-round.
“I don’t want to be an artiste who just puts out songs. I want anything I do to be strong, whether it’s an album or song,” he said.
Lindo senior, who guided his son throughout Love On, is one of the best-known purveyors of easy-listening reggae. Some of the hit songs he has produced include Beres Hammond’s Tempted to Touch, Dennis Brown’s Inseparable and I Wanna Wake up With You by Boris Gardiner.
