The parish of St. Thomas in eastern Jamaica is known for its scenic coastline and thriving banana industry. It has also produced its share of reggae artists including The Slickers (of Johnny Too Bad fame), Bushman, Natty King and Popcaan.

Kurency

Kurency, a singer from the Trinityville area of the parish, is determined to be the next big thing out of that region. His latest song is All Alone, released in March.

It is inspired by an unhappy period in his personal life. All Alone is a song he thinks many people can relate to.

“The song was inspired by a personal experience, because I was feeling alone at one point. But then I said to myself, ‘what about the people that have no one around literally’. And that brought me to, ‘reach too far to give up now’,” he said.

All Alone is Kurency’s second song for the TryMoneyMusiq label which is owned by the legendary King Addies sound system out of New York. Pull Up, his first for the company, was released one year ago.

Kurency’s influences cover the gamut of contemporary dancehall. There’s the roots-reggae of Richie Spice, as well as the hardcore sounds of Vybz Kartel, Chronic Law, and Masicka.

He began recording in 2016 but it was not until three years later that his songs were released. Two of those singles, Philippines and Happy Time, were released in 2020.
