As Jamaica endures another frightening crime rate, singer Isiah Mentor believes gainful employment is one way of steering the country’s youth from criminality.
He shares these thoughts on Income, a collaboration with Luciano and Mikey General. The song was released on May 20 by Isiah Mentor’s Village Records.

Employment from government or private sector, Isiah Mentor reasons, would give wayward youths “A sense of purpose, something to live for.”
He added that, “I’m not saying it will fix all the crime problems in Jamaica and the Caribbean or wherever it is, but it will definitely have an impact on crime.”

Luciano

Isiah Mentor has seen his share of crime and poverty, having lived in some of Jamaica’s toughest communities. He is originally from Rae Town in central Kingston, but also lived in west Kingston and Spanish Town.
He began his career in the 1980’s as Lilly Melody at the famed studio of master engineer Osbourne King Tubby Ruddock. His contemporaries there included fellow singers Anthony Red Rose and Wayne Palmer.

Mikey General

For Income, Isiah Mentor called on two longtime friends.
“Mi look up to Mikey General and Luciano from mi a youth,” he said, proclaiming that a collaboration with the two roots veterans is “one of the best feelings anybody could have.”
