Since recording her first song 40 years ago, Mary Isaacs has favored feel-good ballads. She stays true to form on I’m Happy, a song produced by fellow veteran Sangie Davis for Issachar Musik.
According to Isaacs, the track reflects her state of mind.
“I am happy and blessed and in a positive mindset to be alive, healthy and in a loving space with my immediate family, friends and loved ones. I want this song to create a ripple effect on the lives of others, making them productive and optimistic while appreciating every moment in life as a blessing to be celebrated,” she said. I’m Happy is currently climbing the Foundation Radio Network Top 30 Music Chart.
Isaacs first met Davis seven years ago in Kingston at an event at Twelve Tribes of Israel headquarters. An elder of that organization, he is best known as co-writer of Bob Marley’s Wake Up And Live and sole composer of Girlie Girlie by Sophia George.
Isaacs is originally from Kingston but lived in the United States for over 30 years before returning to Jamaica 20 years ago. You And I, her first song, was released in 1982 by Moodie’s Records.
A Little Bit Of Heaven and Together Again are among her popular songs. Isaacs also has two albums to her credit.
Although the ballad has taken a backseat to hardcore dancehall in Jamaica, Isaacs believes there is still a place for easy-listening songs.
“I do love ballads in all styles of music whether it be mento, ska, reggae, dancehall, soca, gospel, jazz — especially those with positive, inspiring, funny, romantic and feel-good messages. It’s not lacking in Jamaica but what we need is more exposure of the wide range of music that is being produced,” she said.
