Spice, aka Grace Hamilton, was honored by New York City’s Council Black, Latino And Asian Caucus on June 15 for her “outstanding achievements in music”.
The dancehall and reality show star is the first Jamaican recipient of the International Music Ambassador Award. She accepted alongside fellow honorees including Rhythm And Blues legend Patti LaBelle, and rappers Doug E Fresh, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes and Ja Rule at City Hall in New York City.
The Black, Latino And Asian Caucus and The Power And Music Awards at NYC City Hall, honors top executives and artists from the music industry during African American Music Month.
Spice expressed gratitude on social media, saying: “I am Humbled, from homelessness to Greatness.”
The raunchy artist first came to prominence with the 2009 single, Romping Shop, alongside her mentor Vybz Kartel. In recent years, she has taken her brand outside dancehall boundaries by co-starring in the VH1 reality series, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.
Spice’s 10 was nominated for Best Reggae Album at this year’s Grammy Awards.
