EUGENE, United States (AFP)—
Sha’Carri Richardson’s bid for World Championships 100m gold ended abruptly when she crashed out of the first round of the event at the US trials on Thursday.
The outspoken sprint sensation was slow out of the blocks and never a factor in her heat, finishing fifth in 11.31sec — 23rd quickest overall, leaving her to look to the weekend’s 200m for another chance to make the US team.
Richardson will need a top-three finish to earn a berth for the World Championships, which will be held on the same Hayward Field track in Eugene, in July.
