Jamaican dancehall artist Ishawna collaborated with Ed Sheeran on his new hit single ‘Brace It’ which reached number one for Top Reggae songs on iChart since its debut last week.
This marks the duo’s first single together which has been highly anticipated since Ed Sheeran in an October 2021 interview where the ‘Perfect’ singer stated that he loves Ishawna’s ‘Equal Rights’ which is a remix to the UK artiste’s hit single ‘Shape Of You’.
Within 24 hours since ‘Brace It’ was released, the song has gained popularity. Ishawna expressed gratitude for the feedback and also shared that this collaboration with Ed Sheeran was far from expected, when she released ‘Equal Rights’ four years back, which she later got approval from Sheeran.
Ishawna noted, “For me, this means so much, not just because it debuted at number one, but because it was made from the soul.” She further went on to say, “Things like this don’t happen every day, if someone told me four years ago I’d not just get clearance for Equal Rights from Ed Sheeran, I’d call them a liar, but to also have a song with him, I’d tell them No Way!”
Sheeran recently shared a video of himself, sharing his dance moves to ‘Brace It’ and inviting his fans and followers to “dance like him” to the upbeat and catchy tune the song offers.
The English singer/songwriter, and Grammy Award winner, is the first to have two songs debut in the US top 10 in the same week and has also sold more than 150 million records worldwide which granted him a spot among the world’s best-selling artists.
Jamaicans are calling for the music video to the hit song ‘Brace It’ to be done on the island to match the vibe and cultural essence of the single.
When asked if a video is forthcoming, Ishawna remarked “Good things come to those who wait … Nuh true?”
