Almost 22 years after it was released, Hot Shot, the fifth studio album by Shaggy, continues to be a hit with die-hard fans. It re-enters the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart this week at number three.
This is the third time in the last two years that the album has made a comeback.
In November 2020, Hot Shot débuted on the reggae table when it came in at number three. One year later, it rose to number two, its highest position to date. Interestingly, when this album was released in 2000, MCA Records marketed the project as a pop/R&B album. Hence, it was ineligible for the reggae tally.
Hot Shot, which has sold more than 15 million copies globally, contains the hit songs It Wasn’t Me (with Rik Rok), Angel (with Rayvon), Luv Me, Luv Me and Dance & Shout/Hope.
Hot Shot was the second-highest charting album of 2001 on the Billboard year-end chart behind No Strings Attached by NSYNC.
Elsewhere on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, Bob Marley and The Wailers continues to dominate. They hold the number one position for 131 weeks with Legend, while Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul is number two. World on Fire by Stick Figure is number four, Greatest Hits by UB40 is steady at five and Set in Stone by Stick Figure is down to six. Gifted by Koffee inches up to number seven, while Burial Ground, a 2012 release by Stick Figure, moves up to eight. Time Bomb by Iration steps up a notch to number nine, while Exodus by Bob Marley and The Wailers re-enters the chart at number 10.
Regionally, Diamonds in The Sun by Tanya Stephens, Cedella Marley and Diana King remains atop the South Florida Reggae Chart for a fourth straight week.
Leave The Door Open by Anthony Cruz jumps from number 10 to seven, while Righteous People by Wayne Armond moves from 18 to 15.
I’m Happy by Mary Isaacs darts from number 22 to 18, while new entries are Don’t Do It by Hopeton Lindo, Marcia Griffiths and Freddie McGregor (21), Reverse The Curse by Richie Stephens (23) and Save The Children by Hezron (25).
Veteran singer Ken Boothe’s Without Love débuts at number 28 on The Foundation Radio Network (New York) Reggae Chart.
Mi Nuh Know by Shaggy remains is number one spot for a sixth week, while Queen by Nadine Sutherland moves from 15 to 11.
