G Cole
Even the best composers experience writer’s block, but for singer G Cole, once his creative juices get flowing things fall in place. Which is what happened with his latest song Peace of Mind Is A Holiday.
The South Florida-based artiste actually wrote the song in 2013 while on vacation, but it was not until recently that he and co-producer J Vibe recorded it. Peace of Mind Is A Holiday was released in June.
G Cole told the Jamaica Observer that his approach to writing positive songs is simple.
“The ingredients are self-explanatory. Firstly, a great riddim with a great bass line that will reach your soul at first listen. A riddim that you would listen to without any vocals, just straight instrumental. Secondly, words of love and romance that are simple yet profound, words that make you say, ‘I could’ve written that,’ but, really, could you?’ Case in point, I Wanna Wake Up With You by Boris Gardiner or For You by Dennis Brown,” he explained.
From Ocho Rios, G Cole has been recording songs since 2007. He has released a number of singles and two albums and is a popular figure in South Florida reggae circles as an artiste and disc jockey.
Typical of acts in the Jamaican Diaspora, G Cole (given name Gregory Cole) always has his eye on getting a hit song back home with Peace of Mind Is A Holiday.
“With Jamaica being the birthplace and the mecca of reggae music, I definitely would, and I presume every practitioner of reggae would love to score a hit in Jamaica. Also being the land of my birth and the source of my strength, it honestly would mean more to me to have a hit in Jamaica than internationally,” he said.
