The Tennors

The Tennors, who made their name in the rocksteady era of the late 1960s with songs like Pressure and Slide and Ride Yu Donkey, are still in the game. The Antidote, their latest song, was released on July 7.

The Antidote is done to an updated beat of Pressure and Slide, the classic Studio One track that announced the trio in 1967.

Clive Murphy, who started the group, describes that rhythm as timeless.

Pressure and Slide is one of those rhythms that once you hear it, you want to dance. It came at a time just when the rocksteady was at its height. It’s also a very unusual track, well over a 100 songs have been recorded on that rhythm,” he said.

Among the hit songs Pressure and Slide has driven are Mr DC by Sugar Minott and Hugh Brown’s Please Mr Doctor.

The Antidote is one of the songs from The Tennors’ new album, tentatively titled Whodunit. That set is scheduled for release in September.

Murphy is the sole original member of The Tennors. The current trio is completed by Rod Spence and Andrew Murphy.
