WHEN producer Troyton encouraged Wesrok to collaborate with dancehall artiste Masicka, the reggae-country singer said he never knew what to expect. He was, however, pleasantly surprised when the song, Try to Hold Me, soared to number one on the iTunes Top 100 Reggae Chart on September 29.

“During the recent pandemic, I felt the need to explore my passion for music. I started to write songs about my life. Then started recording,” Wesrok told the Jamaica Observer.

Try to Hold Me was released on October 15, 2021.

Wesrok said the accomplishment has boosted his career.

“This is the cream of the crop. The true test. This has placed Wesrok to the world. What more can I ask for?” he said.

Wesrok, whose given name is Percival Buddan, hails from Bog Walk in St Catherine. A former police officer, he completed masters in National Strategic Studies in 2010 at the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) in Manchester.

He released a seven-track EP titled Look At Me Now in early 2021. He teamed up with Laa Lee this year on Is There A Party. The singer also had a set at this year’s staging of Reggae Sumfest.

His other tracks include Born As A Winner, Coming Home For Christmas, Looking Back, and Poor Country Boy.

In the meantime, he is encouraging up-and-coming acts to stay the course as they pursue their passion.

“Believe in yourself. Never give up. Do good music and keep positive company,” he said.
