Many artists made their names as songwriters before establishing themselves as singers — Ashford and Simpson, Isaac Hayes and Carole King are some of them. Alpha One wants to join that impressive group.
The London-based singer and multi-instrumentalist began recording four years ago, having previously writing songs for artists such as Gappy Ranks and Jahvinci. This year has been his busiest as a recording artist, with Can’t Trust Them, Fire Keep on Blazing and Just That Little Vibe his released songs.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, it took a while before 43 year-old Alpha One found the confidence to record his songs.
“After composing a demo for an artist back in 2018, basically, writing and bringing together the instrumental aspects of the song, and also voicing on the track, this inspired me to see that I could do this myself!’ he exclaimed.
Two of his initial songs were Cure and Poor is Not A Crime which created ripples in British reggae circles. Both bear Alpha One’s commitment to making wholesome music, void of violence and profanity.
That formula, he believes, is a winning one especially if an artist intends to reach a wide audience.
“My plan for my music is to become internationally-known, and for my music to be consumed worldwide,” he said.
