Dutty Rock, the Grammy winning album by international recording artiste Sean Paul, has been certified triple platinum for sales exceeding three million copies (sales and streaming equivalent) in the United States.
The certification by the Recording Industry Association (RIAA) of America was issued Wednesday.
Dutty Rock, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary (it was released on November 12, 2002) is Sean Paul’s second studio album.
The album debuted at number 26 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 65,000 copies (the biggest first week sales at the time for any Jamaican artiste). It later rose to number nine on the chart.
Dutty Rock also peaked at number two on the UK Albums chart, number one on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number one in Canada.
‘Gimme the Light’, ‘Get Busy’, ‘Like Glue’ and ‘I’m Still in Love with You’ (featuring Sasha) were the hit singles from the album, each of which made the Top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. ‘Gimme the Light’ and ‘Get Busy’ both hit the top 10 with the latter becoming the deejay’s first number one title on the Hot 100.
Dutty Rock was re-released in 2003 and included on that release the hit single ‘Baby Boy’ with Beyonce, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks.
Dutty Rock has previously been certified gold in Argentina, Australia, Denmark, Mexico, Sweden, Norway and New Zealand. It has been certified triple platinum in Canada and the United Kingdom, while earning platinum certifications in Germany, Japan and Switzerland.
Delroy Foster, Steely and Clevie, The Neptunes, Sly Dunbar, Tony Kelly, Jeremy Harding, Richard Martin and Louis Malcolm are among the producers who contributed to Dutty Rock.
