Navigating traffic in Kingston has been a tedious task for many years. Even on weekends, there are frustrating bottlenecks throughout Jamaica’s capital.

That situation is similar, in ways, to life in Jamaica. That analogy drives Kingston Traffic, a new song by Naomi Cowan and Chaka Demus.

It is written and produced by Tommy Cowan.

“The message behind the song is to strive for a preferred lifestyle, one which is void of confusion, likened onto Kingston traffic which is full of delays, confusion, intimidation, disrespect for the law and our fellowman. The song is also about finding your purpose, identity, potential and source, which can also determine your destiny,” he explained.

Traffic congestion in Kingston has been a concern for motorists and government for decades. To alleviate the knotty situation, engineers have reconfigured some of the city’s main thoroughfares.

Cowan, who has produced songs by Eric Donaldson (Cherry Oh Baby) and Israel Vibration (Same Song), paired Naomi (his daughter) with Chaka Demus, the veteran toaster best known for his long-term partnership with singer Pliers.

He told the Jamaica Observer that the unlikely duo worked well together and called for more collaborations between emerging acts and ‘elders’.

“Chaka Demus has an international sounding voice, where I believe he’s easily understood, he’s melodic also with a sound of the foundation [music] linking the future. He is timeless and Naomi the great future makes good chemistry. Chaka on this project adds value to an even wider audience and age group,” said Cowan.
