It’s the dream of many persons to go through life with a soul mate. Someone who is their perfect match. Five years ago, Derrick Scott found that person in Nadine Petrie. They were married for four years, but in February, 2022 she died. Scott, a gospel singer, pays homage to his lost love on February 4 with The Mission Continues, a show at Castle Gardens Center in Lauderhill. He and his daughter Kishna will be backed by a nine-piece band and three harmony singers. “This is very, very special to me because I  will be celebrating the memory of my soul mate. A kind, loving, caring, sharing person,” said Scott. He and Nadine hit it off instantly when they first met in 2018. They shared similarities;  being from the market town of Linstead in St. Catherine parish, Jamaica, they once  lived in the Cayman Islands and had a passion for the Christian faith.

According to Scott, his wife fully supported the Gospel Mission concert he first held in Lauderdale Lakes eight years ago. She would have wanted him to continue promoting it. “It’s something she looked forward to. She was a true child of God,” he said. The Mission Continues comprises a banquet which precedes the live show. Derrick Scott is the younger brother of Freddie McKay, a talented singer from the  1960’s and 1970’s who scored with hit songs like Picture on The Wall and Dance Dis Ya Festival which won the 1976 Festival Song Competition. He has recorded four albums including the hard-hitting Preacher Nowadays.
