February is Reggae Month and it’s all about the legends, led by Bob Marley, the king himself.

Singer Novel-T pays tribute to the legendary singer/songwriter, who would have turned 78 on February 6, by covering Satisfy My Soul, his 1978 ballad from the Kaya album.

Her version, released on January 31, is produced by P And n Publishing, a company owned and operated by her husband, Howard Ricketts.

“I love many of Bob’s songs, so it’s hard to pick a favorite, but this is definitely one of my ‘favs’ and is more familiar to me as it was a staple on the song list of one of my former bands,” Novel-T explained.

While she and Ricketts stay true to the original melody, their take on Satisfy My Soul has a slightly more uptempo, “lighthearted” pop feel.

Kaya, distributed by Island Records, is regarded as a departure from Marley’s militant work in the early and mid-1970s. Although it has hard-hitting tracks such as Running Away, Misty Morning and Sun is Shining, Satisfy My Soul, She’s Gone and Is This Love hear him in a romantic mood.

Novel-T remembers first listening to Marley as a child in her hometown of Kingston, Jamaica. Her admiration for his artistry grew during the 1990s when she sang in various bands in Jamaica and South Florida.

She has an affinity for the softer side of Marley, who died in May, 1981 at age 36. Novel-T names Turn Your Lights Down Low, Waiting in Vain, Is This Love, Three Little Birds and No Woman No Cry as other of his tracks she would like to cover.
