Aseven-year-old girl in Bronx, New York was hospitalised for a punctured lung after her own grandmother stabbed her multiple times on Tuesday, according to reports.

Reports are that the girl was visiting her grandmother, away from her New Jersey home, where she lives with her parents.

The girl’s uncle reportedly found his niece bleeding on a bed, stabbed in the back, neck and stomach.

The 65-year-old grandmother, Maritza Yauger, has been arrested, and is facing charges of attempted murder, attempted manslaughter, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to reports, Yauger is undergoing a psychological evaluation at hospital.

There is no known history of administration for Child Services being involved with the family, and police are still looking into what led to the attack, investigators said,

Police say the girl is now in stable condition at the hospital and is expected to recover.
