Roots and Righteous Riddim is the latest effort from music producer Richard Roache.
“This project is different from all the other rhythms I’ve worked on because it’s taken from a different angle of all the genres that I normally produce. This is a more roots rock reggae type of project. It has that type of vibe and that type of energy. Not only from the rhythm aspect of it, but also from the artistes that are on it. It’s artistes that are more message-driven and champion towards that type of genre. Especially for the two front-runners — Junior Reid and Mykal Rose,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
“I consider myself blessed to have two front-runners who were the lead singer of [Reggae Grammy-winning group] Black Uhuru at one point, Junior Reid and Mykal Rose. I saved the files as roots because it was rootsy and all the artistes performed amazingly; they all brought forward profound messages in their own right,” he continued.
Released last Friday on his Digital One Records label it also features Lutan Fyah, Bugle, Duane Stephenson, Sizzla, Mr Pike, Warrior King, Ibo Fyah and Jesse Royal.
Having worked at the respected King Jammy’s Studio in Waterhouse for five years, his breakthrough project was the Scanner Riddim in 2002. The rhythm featured a line-up of Vybz Kartel, Mr Vegas, Beenie Man, Delly Ranx, and many more. Since then, he has worked on projects such as the Wireless Riddim, the Believe Riddim as well as Chronixx’s breakout hit Odd Rass. A former manager for Teflon, Roache has collaborated with a slew of big names in dancehall and reggae such as Sizzla, Bling Dawg, Silver Cat, Tanya Stephens, and Voicemail.
