At least two times a year, Varian Di-Best travels to Jamaica to check out the latest music trends. Like most dancehall acts who live abroad, he would love to get a hit song ‘back a yaad’.

The New York-based deejay is hoping Live And Go On, a track he recorded in 2022, will do the trick.

“When yuh get a hit in Jamaica, it cross over into the Diaspora and anywhere connected to dancehall music. It’s the place to be,” he said.

Live And Go On is from Gyal And Medz, his second album, which was recently released. #Next Baddest, his first album, came out in 2021.

Varian Di-Best is also promoting Is it That Hard and Pride And Ego, which are other songs from Gyal And Medz, a set he describes as “a mix of female songs and reality.”

Raised in Kingston and Spanish Town, Varian Di-Best grew up listening to a number of dancehall acts.

Shaggy

Although he eyed a music career for some time, it was not until three years ago that he made his recording debut with Soca Party, produced by Foxy D Production.

Jamaican artists living overseas, or those born abroad to Jamaican parents, have long desired to make an impact in Jamaica.

Some of whom made that successful transition are Steel Pulse, Maxi Priest and Papa Levi (United Kingdom), as well as Shaggy, Bling Dawg and Busta Rhymes out of New York.
