Veteran gospel artiste Dr Carlene Davis has paid homage to the late Norris Weir — former lead vocalist of rocksteady group The Jamaicans — through her latest track No Regrets.
“He was a great singer, songwriter and a close friend of Tommy Cowan. They both sang and wrote several hit songs together to include the winning Festival song of 1967 Baba Boom Time,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
Released on May 26, the track was co-produced by Davis and Tommy Cowan on the Glory Music Record label.
“Norris wrote and recorded No Regrets, which speaks of God’s love and goodness in all our lives. Norris made a statement to the fact that had it not been for God’s grace he would not have overcome so many obstacles in his life. We revamped it by adding additional words and a bridge,” she shared.
Norris Weir passed away in November 2018 in Port St Lucie, Florida, at age 72.
Meanwhile, the singer says the track is aimed at offering consolation for listeners during trying times.
“As always, Christians face ups and downs in life. Especially during one’s down time it’s not over until God says it is over. This is a message to inspire, reminding each and every one of us that once you remain focused on putting God first in all our desires and assignments you will find the peace fulfilling our God-given purpose in life and not look back with any regrets,” she said.
Davis told the Observer she is looking to release a fresh body of work as she aims to integrate more into the churches across the island, as well as with her listeners.
“Firstly, [I’m making] efforts to make closer association with the churches of Jamaica as I believe that the Church has an important role in bringing our country out of these dark times. I am also working on a new album release. My last album, The Assignment, [was] released in 2018, and since I have released several singles and videos. Right now I am listening to the Holy Spirit and the path set before is for this new album,” she said.
