Nyjah
Three years ago, Nyjah found himself in a similar position to many artistes in Jamaica. He saw little reward after years of recording songs for different producers.
That lack of success influenced him to start Mishka Production, a company he operates with business partner Michelle Moncrieffe. They recently released the Sugar Plum rhythm which features songs by Nyjah, Thriller U, Hawkeye and Brando.
“Wi was struggling in di music business ‘round di producer dem, and wi realise dem not putting out wi song. So, wi decide to produce our own music,” he said.
Walk Away is Thriller U’s song on the Sugar Plum. Hawkeye, who enjoyed considerable success during the 1990s, does Online while Saudi Arabia is the title of Brando’s song.
Nyjah contributes Lifetime to the project which features drummer Kemar Liking, bassist Lorenzo West, keyboardist Koriq Clark and guitarist Lamont Savory.
The Sugar Plum is Mishka Production’s second release. Three years ago, the company debuted with the Lovestruck rhythm.
Born Dwight Walker in St Thomas, Nyjah was previously known as Impact and has been recording since 2000. Dutty Bwoy, his first released song, was produced by Colin “Iley Dread” Levy.
