Personal turmoil sometimes inspires an artist’s greatest songs. Gospel singjay Chris Da Ambassada found himself in that position when writing songs for Place Of Change, his third album.
The 13-song set was released in early August and hears the London-based artist relating his personal challenges to rocking dancehall beats.
Chris Da Ambassada’s previous album, New Chapter, was released in 2019.
“I wrote some of these songs when I was on the verge of giving up; in tears sometimes. I was going through a time when I felt emotionally, physically and mentally exhausted, but for some reason I kept going back to the beginning of how I started,” he explained. “I think it’s because of my testimony and the struggles I have been through, kept me going.”
The title song (a collaboration with Dajourney), Break Free, Selfish World (featuring Sherri) and Purpose are some of the songs from Place Of Change, on which he worked with Dajourney Production out of Canada.
Chris Da Ambassada said he went through personal problems during the break between albums. He wanted to express his emotions as much as possible on Place Of Change.
“This album is a very special project that Dajourney and I created to show a different side of Chris Da Ambassada, more of a deeper side. After such a long break I decided to return with a strategic goal to reach as many people as possible with the epistle of my life,” he said.
Growing up in rural St. Thomas parish in eastern Jamaica, Chris Da Ambassada listened to Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man, Buju Banton and Bounty Killer. He became a Christian in 2005 and has worked alongside other dancehall-gospel artists such as Papa San, Minister Marion Hall and DJ Nicholas.
Changes, his first album, was released in 2015.
