In her four-decade career, Sister Carol has been nominated for a Grammy Award, toured the world and appeared in movies. However, nothing compares to sharing the mic with her daughter, Nakeeba.
Their latest collaboration is Be Alone, which they co-produced with Dean Wauchope, Sister Carol’s husband and Nakeeba’s father. The song is scheduled for release on September 8.

“Sharing the mic and stage with Nakeeba is my greatest delight musically. She inspires me round the clock and I’m her biggest fan,” said Sister Carol. Be Alone was recorded in Jamaica and New York City where the mother and daughter’s roots run deep. It hears Nakeeba singing about being born and raised in Jamaica, Queens while Sister Carol deejays about her early years in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital.

Previously, they have worked together on the songs, Cool Down, Muma And Pickney Reunion and My Jamaica.
Sister Carol migrated to the United States in the early 1970s and settled with her parents in Brooklyn where she first made her name musically on sound systems late that decade.

In the 1980s and 1990s,  a succession of culturally-strong albums for independent labels such as RAS Records and Heartbeat Records won her a strong base in Europe and the US West Coast.

Her 1996 Heartbeat Records set, Lyrically Potent, was nominated for the 1997 Best Reggae Album Grammy Award.
Sister Carol has also had roles in the Jonathan Demme-directed movies, Married to The Mob and Rachel Getting Married.
