While recording songs for his new album, Hopeton Lindo called on the three Ps to guide him. Indeed, persistence, patience, and purpose made his latest effort a masterpiece. Scheduled for release on 29th Sept 2023 via Tunecore, Purpose bears the seal of his Irie Pen Records and has 16 songs including five number-ones. That batch includes his latest chart-topper, ‘Dont Know Much’, a duet with Novel-T. A cover of the Grammy-winning ballad made famous by acts like Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt, ‘Dont Know Much’ topped the South Florida Reggae Chart just before the release of ‘Purpose’.Talk about perfect timing.
“It’s a great feeling having another number one ahead of my new album. This new album is well-balanced with a little of everything for everyone and maintains my standard,” said Lindo, an erstwhile singer/songwriter with an impressive cache of hit songs. In addition to ‘Don’t Know Much’, ‘Purpose’ contains other chart-riders such as ‘Grown Woman’ with Peter G, ‘You Don’t Have To Be A Star’ with Fiona, and ‘Don’t Do It’ which features Freddie McGregor and Marcia Griffiths. Lindo also covers ‘It’s Impossible ‘, in tribute to the legendary Bob Andy, a big influence on his career, who died in 2020.
There is also a rocking remake of The Chi Lites ‘Homely Girl ‘.”Bob was a good friend of mine who encouraged and inspired me so it’s an honor to salute him with a song of his,” said Lindo. ‘Purpose’ lives up to ‘teamwork makes the dream work’, a mantra that has guided Hopeton Lindo since he started his career several years ago. He produced or co-produced most of the songs on the album with noted input from close colleagues including Willie Lindo, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Rorey Baker, Gilmore Walters, Richard Grant, Dave Richards, Danny Breakenridge, JonFX and Paul Gauntlet. Listen with a sense of ‘Purpose’ and enjoy!
