Although she has lived in London for over 10 years, Yeshie Renee relishes every opportunity to visit Jamaica. When she touches down on the ‘Rock’, one of the first places she heads to is West Kingston.

That community is the backdrop for several of her songs, whether content or music videos. They include Bring Back The Love, which Yeshie Renee did with Majah Bless, her brother.

“I really love West Kingston, especially Denham Town where I grew up, and Tivoli Gardens where I still have family. It’s always great going back,” she said.

The singjay is currently promoting Commotion, one of her latest songs, the video for which was filmed in West Kingston. Boom and Give Thanks are other songs Yeshie Renee has on the market.

West Kingston’s reputation as an enclave of the Jamaica Labor Party — one of Jamaica’s two main political parties — gained international prominence in May, 2010 with the bloody incursion that resulted in the arrest and extradition of Christopher “Dudus” Coke, the area’s strongman and leader of the infamous Shower Posse.

Yeshie Renee is aware of the negatives associated with her hometown but prefers to show its positive side through her music and videos.

“That shows the audience a better picture of who Yeshie Renee is, what I represent, and where I come from,” she said.
