Wilder Octavius with stage name Wid is a Haitian singer,
songwriter, composer, and occasional actor born in Port-Salut,
a commune in the South Department of Haiti. Raised by his
mother and grandmother, he is the eldest of his siblings. He
grew up in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, not the richest in his area but
definitely rich in upbringing. Although his father was a
musician for “Palais National” and his mother was a lover of
music, he was discouraged from taking that road. His interest in
music started at a young age. Sitting in the pews of his
Christian church, he enjoyed watching the choir sing.
Wid basked in the church music so much that he would reenact
it at home. He later joined the choir and was very involved in
church activities. His Christian background made it difficult for
him to participate in secular music. He gave in and started
budding with a few local groups which resulted in him being
sanctioned by the church. A self-taught musical player of “bass,
guitar, and tambour”, he enjoyed them as a hobby.
His latest single “Control Me” is picked up by The Foundation Radio Network and its affiliates, and is on heavy rotation.
Wid’s career in music informally started
with a group called Melodie. There he
enjoyed moderate local popularity.
He wrote and recorded 1 song with the
group. His musical formation truly started
with G7 when he embarked on his music
career. He wrote and recorded a few
pieces of music with the band.
His music with the band made a great impact in Cayes, Haiti. It was
there that he met Money G who was highly impressed when he heard
him sing the first time. Wid later joined Zenglen as a singer and
recorded 2 albums during his 6 years with the band.
Wid had no formal musical training at the beginning but his dedication
and commitment to music has propelled him to learn on his own.
Wid musical genre is polyvalent with a knack of Konpa, Afrobeat,
Zouk, Reggae and Jazz earned him the fans love and respect. His
sound and style has the power to transform the art of music and give
him an audience like no other. His music has originality with great
arrangements and vocals.
Wid has recorded and wrote over 20 songs since the beginning of his
musical venture.
WID Began his solo career with the release
of two singles. WID opened a few chapters
of his life in MY STORY. The series has a
total of 4 chapters. The 1st chapter Kole
which stayed on top of the HMI best music
for over 30 weeks.
In Kole Chapter 1 of the series WID expresses his vulnerability by
narrating a past experience with a lover. He then continued with
Chapter 2 OU PA MERITE-M in which he shared the heartbreaking
journey of that love story. Chapter 1 Kole won single of the year by
Vedette Magazine and was nominated for Male artist of the year and
Hit Compas de l’annee by Ticket Magazine.
At the end of the year 2021, WID Released KOUTBA My Story
Chapter 3 of the 4 series with a twist of unexpected turned. On the
side of philanthropy WID showed up for his hometown Les Cayes
(Haiti) for the aftermath of the 2021 earthquake. WID dug deep in his
own pocket to bring first aid kits, toiletries bags and food to help his
fans and his community. WID was featured by the Miami Herald, le
Nouveliste, Juno7, El Nuevo Herald , BET.com , Stripe.com and
Cliché Magazine.
In Chapter 4 WID finds true love. Giving hope to his fans that true
love exists, this last chapter “ Mwen Beni – I am Blessed “ secured his
spot as a solo artist performing with a live band in the Haitian Music
Industry.
WID’s first album as a solo artist is set to release this month. WID
displayed his talent as a polyvalent artist. You can expect Konpa, Afro
Beats and a few collaborations with some well talented musicians.
STARBOY, the name of the album, is WID owning who he was created
to be…a leading man. In STARBOY, the artist gave an ode to his
younger brother whose dream was to be an musician but
unfortunately was called to paradise at a young age. WID shared the
spotlight with him through “ADIEU”.
The fashion, the swag, the voice and the unruffled attitude
contributes to WID the leading man.
