Since it was first recorded during the early 1940s, At Last has been covered countless times, the most famous version being by Etta James. Jamaican singer Nikki Fyah is the latest artist to take a crack at the enduring ballad.

Her rendition, produced by Da Global Base, was released in September.

She said it was her idea to cover At Last, calling it, “a passion project, so to speak.”

Nikki Fyah was aware of the legends who have recorded versions of At Last, the best known being James in 1960 and bandleader Glenn Miller in the early 1940s. Celine Dion and Beyonce are among the contemporary acts to cover it.

There were no nerves for Nikki Fyah when she stepped into the booth to cut her version.

“I did not feel intimidated because I’ve been performing this song, in its original format, for a long time and was accustomed to getting great feedback,” she said.

Originally from Kingston, Nikki Fyah started her career as Nikki Browning. Some of her songs under that moniker are You and Someone After You.

Academics and parenthood took precedence over music which she put on the backburner for several years, before making a comeback with a different name and renewed focus.

“I took a break from recording to raise my children and earn my degrees then got captured by corporate America. As a business owner now, I have the freedom and flexibility to follow my life’s passion,” said Nikki Fyah.
