Two years ago when American singer Brandon Rootz first met Luciano, he recalls an instant spiritual connection. Their synergy led to a recording session at Mixing Lab Studios in Kingston.
That resulted in Without The Greed, a collaboration produced by Brandon Rootz. It is being released on November 7.
“The message behind Without The Greed is there is too much suffering in the world. As corporations are putting smaller businesses out of business and making so much money that they use to carry out there agenda of doing more harm to the people then good. Nobody should be going hungry, and not have running water,” Brandon Rootz reasoned.
Drummer Kirk Bennett, bassist Glen Browne and saxophonist Dean Fraser are some of the musicians on Without The Greed, which is a precursor to the northern California native’s first album, scheduled for release in early December.
Since first traveling to Jamaica eight years ago, Brandon Rootz has befriended and worked with legendary producer Lloyd “King Jammy” James, Buju Banton, guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith and firebrand deejay Capleton.
He appears on the album, King Jammy Presents Gregory Isaacs — Rebirth of The Cool Ruler, which pairs Isaacs digitally with top dancehall and reggae acts. His song on the set is You’re Like An Angel.
Brandon Rootz, whose biggest musical hero is Bob Marley, hopes the humanitarian message of Without The Greed hits home.
“With all the money spent on creating wars, if that was invested into creating peace we would live in a better world today. We live in a world of modern-day slavery, and the system has brainwashed the people to not see the reality of what is really happening in the world,” he said.
