Three years ago, a bright future as a dancehall deejay was on the cards for Prince Saj. But then the gangly artist got a higher calling and gave his life to the Lord.
That conversion comes full circle on Conquest, his first EP, produced by DaJourney out of Canada. Released in early December by DaJourney Production, it has eight songs including the title track, Watch yuh Step and Marriage is Beautiful. They are done in the dancehall style Prince Saj grew up admiring in St. Catherine parish, Jamaica. According to the 22-year-old entertainer, the message is what is important.
“Since accepting Jesus Christ, my life has been transformed in a Heavenly way. That’s just how I can put it. I feel more safe and secure knowing that I have a God, a Father who will fight for me and love me unconditionally,” he said. “I feel more motivated to take on the different things that life comes with and it has made me realize that I’m more than I thought I was, so I need to live holy and righteous because the wages of sin is death but the gift of Christ is eternal life.”
Prince Saj also has a musical mentor in DaJourney, a Kingston-born artist and producer who has guided his career since 2019. They have collaborated on Overcome, while DaJourney produced Greatness and Godly Woman, two of his earlier songs.
In December, 2021, Prince Saj was first runner-up in the Magnum Top Performa competition in Kingston. In October last year, he won Breakout Sensation of The Year at the Sterling Gospel Music Awards, also in the Jamaican capital.
Conquest is the icing on the cake.
“To know that God has seen it fit to bless me with the opportunity to release an EP is an ecstatic feeling. I’m beyond happy and I’m immensely grateful that my first ever EP has been released for the world to listen and hear the Biblical messages that each song brings,” said Prince Saj.
