Jamaica Music Ambassador Richie Stephens will kick off 2024 – his 40th year in the music industry – by releasing a hard-hitting track with Dancehall Emperor Shabba Ranks.
Richie and Shabba have had a long history of working together. In the 1990s, when both artists were signed to Spec Shang, Shabba Ranks became the first dancehall act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Richie also had success when famed music producer Jazzy B from Soul 2 Soul saw his exhilarating performance at Brixton Academy in London and invited him to record a song on Volume 3 of the album titled ‘Just Right.’ The song, ‘Joy’ was selected as the first single from the album. The rest is history, as the single paved the way for Richie’s international success.
The new song by Richie and Shabba titled ‘Wicked’ is a certified crossover banger that invites comparison to Shabba’s 1991 duet with Maxi Priest titled ‘House Call.’ The groundbreaking track assured Shabba’s success and helped to introduce reggae/dancehall music to a larger international audience. ‘Wicked’ is expected to have the same global appeal and will be released on the Pot of Gold Record label on January 1, 2024. Richie serves as producer and co-writer of the track.
