Jamaica’s renowned sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, winner of five World Championships 100m gold medals, has proudly graced the pages of Essence magazine’s January/February 2024 issue.
Sharing the exciting news with her impressive following of over 932,000 on Instagram, Fraser-Pryce highlighted that the article in this prominent American lifestyle publication delves into both her athletic journey and her life beyond the track.
In her Instagram post on Thursday, Fraser-Pryce expressed her gratitude for being featured in the magazine’s edition celebrating Black Women in Sports, acknowledging Malaika Jabali, Senior News and Politics Editor, for conducting a thoughtful interview.
This isn’t Fraser-Pryce’s first appearance in Essence magazine. She was previously featured when she secured a partnership with the luxury watch brand Richard Mille in November of last year.
She joined Jamaican former world 100m champion Yohan Blake; all-time top scorer for Ivory Coast’s national football team Didier Drogba; number 1 ranked tennis star Rafael Nadal; and South African sprinter Wayde van Niekerk, who are among the legendary athletes signed as ambassadors of the brand.
All eyes on Paris
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has her sights set on the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, which she says will be her final bid to add to her impressive collection of Olympic medals.
Despite facing challenges earlier in the year, including withdrawal from competitions due to a family emergency and a knee injury, Fraser-Pryce made a remarkable comeback. She showcased her resilience and athletic prowess by securing second place in the 200m at the Jamaican Championships.
Additionally, she earned silver and bronze medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, contributing to Jamaica’s success in the 4×100 relay despite sustaining a hamstring injury.
In 2023, Fraser-Pryce also achieved the milestone of winning her first Laureus World Sports Award for Sportswoman of the Year, a recognition of her consistent excellence in athletics.
She was also honored this month with the 2023 Alumni Exemplar Sports Award by the University of West Indies during the university’s 75th Anniversary celebrations.
