In the macho world of dancehall music, it’s rare to hear an artist sing or deejay about losing his girl. That’s exactly what P’damore does on Fish Out Of Water, a song he co-produced and was released in December.
According to the Toronto-based singjay, the single is inspired by a friend of his who became depressed after his lady walked out on him. While sympathetic to his plight, P’damore decided to write a song based on the situation.
“As man, we don’t like talk ‘bout these things but it happens. Everybody goes through something like dat,” he said.
Fish Out of Water, co-produced by Dilla Oneil, is the first song he has recorded as P’damore. He was previously known as Mr. Vigorous, and recorded under that moniker since the 1990s.
It is also his second song since returning to the music business which he gave a 15-year break due to frustration. Mama MTi Find The Right Person, P’damore’s other comeback song, also came out last year.
As Mr. Vigorous, he recorded for several producers in Jamaica including singer Phillip Fraser, who directed him on False Money Gal, his first song. That was followed by songs like Mi Know Shame.
Once he discovered another artist had a similar stage name, he shed Mr. Vigorous and became P’damore. Now, it’s just like starting over.
“The important thing now is to get my name out there,” said P’damore.
