Off the scene for some time, Iba Mahr returns with a song that salutes outstanding black heroes including Bob Marley, Mortimo Planno, and Emperor Haile Selassie I.

General is the name of his comeback song. It is produced by Notis Records, the company that produced Diamond Sox, his 2014 hit song.

The new single is accompanied by a video directed by Jesse James.

“To be a general is an honorable title. This song speaks to the dignity and honor of what a general is. We, Jamaican musicians, are on the continued path of embracing the foundation of our culture and musical heritage. ‘General’ offers an understanding of the names of leaders and Rastafarians we recognize as some of the most influential figures throughout history,” says Iba Mahr.

The 37-year-old roots artist is from Linstead, a market town in Jamaica’s St. Catherine parish, that produced acts such as Phyllis Dillon, Joseph Hill of Culture, and Freddie McKay.

His initial songs 15 years ago were produced by legendary singer Max Romeo (Had It & Lost It) and Philip “Fatis” Burrell of Xterminator Records who guided him on Where You Are.

On General, Iba Mahr reunites with the Notis Records team, who have produced hit songs by numerous artists including Spragga Benz, Jesse Royal, Busy Signal and Chronixx.

Diamond Sox, inspired by the dances Iba Mahr’s father kept in Linstead back in the day, was a big hit 10 years ago. It also had a popular remix with Tarrus Riley, and is the title of his lone album, released by VP Records in 2015.
