April 20 was dubbed 4/20, by marijuana advocates, it is the norm for supporters of the weed to light up or promote its economic benefits. Freemynz, however, got high on music.
The Jamaican act, which comprises Shango Trex and Catapila, released their latest song Get High on April 19. It is produced by Gate Citizens.
While the New York-based Shango Trex and Catapila, who lives in Japan, support the decriminalization of marijuana, they are not staunch supporters of any movement. Get High is simply a feel-good song.
“Get High” is definitely encouraging listeners to detach from life’s challenges and negative outlook, while inviting each and everyone to immerse themselves in the music and embrace moments of pure joyfulness,” he said. “While we don’t actively follow April 20 activities, we’re aware of its significance to those who celebrate their rights to destress and enjoy themselves.”
He and Catapila co-wrote Get High with longtime collaborator, Andre Fennell.
While Freemynz officially launched 11 years ago, Shango Trex and Catapila actually met as musicians in Japan during the 1990s. At the time, Jamaican music had an enthusiastic following in that country, especially the capital Tokyo where they were based.
Their first song, Time to Shine, was inspired by the earthquake that devastated parts of Japan in 2011. A cover of Billy Ocean’s Caribbean Queen, Dangerous (with D’Angel), and Disbelief are some of Freemynz’ previous songs.
