The Jamaican father has long been criticized for domestic delinquency, but singer and radio disc jockey G Cole salutes the man of the house on the recently-released My Father’s Song.
Done to the melody of Dennis Brown’s If I Follow My Heart, it was written and recorded specifically for Father’s Day.
Born and raised in Ocho Rios, G Cole has lived for many years in South Florida. He believes fathers who live up to their responsibilities should be lauded.
“It is very important to acknowledge fathers who play their roles, love and honor should be a symbiotic relationship. The love and care that Dad shows to you, should be rewarded. Honor is due to all who deserve it, especially in a time where the myth of the missing father is so loud. It also needs to be normalized for the next generation,” he said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
G Cole admits that for some time, the relationship with his father was strained, but today they have a strong bond. The father of one daughter, he considers parenthood a blessing.
“Being a good father is the most important job I have. My job as a father determines what type of person I’m sending out into the world. If she’s a good person, that’s what I hoped to put out in the world, but if she’s not a good person then that’s what I’ve unleashed upon the world. Either way, her outcome is my responsibility,” G Cole reasoned.
A recording artiste for over 20 years, G Cole has released a number of songs and two albums — This Music Vol 1 Return to Vintage and Ocho Rios.
