Roots singer Zamunda, gives a nod to pop star Chris Brown with “Energy,” a reggae cover of the latter’s ballad, Angel Numbers (Ten Toes). His version, a co-production by Natures Way Entertainment and Sweet Water Spawn Production, is scheduled for release on July 5.
Garfield Cowan, head of Natures Way Entertainment, said it was Zamunda’s idea to add a reggae flavor to ‘Angel Numbers’, which is from 11:11, Brown’s 2023 album which was released by RCA Records.
Energy is the first single Zamunda recorded for Natures Way Entertainment since Cowan became his manager early this year. Their working relationship, however, goes back 12 years as Zamunda recorded One of These Days for the label’s debut production, the Hope ‘riddim’ compilation album.
Zamunda’s second album, Jah Love Surround Me, was released in early 2023. The Rastafarian artiste is currently in Europe for an extended period during which he is expected to do shows in several countries including Austria, Finland and Germany.
It is his second time in Europe, and he plans to promote the album and expand his base.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to go out on the road and meet new people, and get up close and personal with the fans. Spread Zamunda’s message which is peace and rights and justice,” he said.
“Energy” continues Zamunda’s flirtation with ballads. It follows Save Some For Me, a song from Jah Love Surround me, and a cover of the Sonny and Cher classic, I Got You Babe which he did with Macka Diamond.
