AFTER TOPPING THE CHART IN SOUTH FLORIDA…PETER G EYES SUCCESS IN JAMAICA!

After copping his first #1 song as a solo artiste in South Florida, singer Peter G is eyeing similar success in Jamaica.

His song, Not Taking No, has topped the South Florida Reggae Chart for two weeks.

“I would want to duplicate the success that I have experienced in South Florida in Jamaica. I am Jamaican-born and bred, and to have my music played and recognized in my homeland would give me an immense feeling of accomplishment,” he said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.

 

Not Taking No was released early this year on singer/producer Hopeton Lindo’s
Favorite rhythm, which also has songs by Lindo, Anthony Malvo, Sanchez, and Novel-T.

Peter G, who has a long association with Lindo, previously topped the South Florida Reggae Chart through collaborations with Lindo (Grown Woman) and Novel-T (Love Won’t Let Us Wait).
He is aware that it has become tougher for singers to crack the Jamaican market.

“Traditional reggae singers bring a melodic and soulful aspect that complements the rhythmic and lyrical styles of singjays and deejays. A balance of these elements can create a more dynamic and varied musical landscape, appealing to a wider audience and preserving the rich heritage of reggae music,” Peter G noted.

Born Peter Gayle, he got into the music business shortly after graduating from high school in the 1980s. Many of his songs have involved Lindo and Mikey Bennett, two of reggae’s dominant songwriters during the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s.

Peter G has also performed at Rototom Sunsplash as lead singer for the revamped Revolutionaries band.
