Renowned IRIE FM broadcaster, Ainsworth “Big A” Higgins is among the industry players to be recognized with a National Honor later this year.Big A will receive a Badge of Honor for long and faithful service for over thirty years of service to the Broadcasting Industry.A native of St. Ann, Big A is among the foundation presenters at IRIE FM who helped to change the landscape in Jamaican radio with the launch the nation’s first Reggae Radio Station in 1990.

The veteran broadcaster known for his thorough in-depth analysis on entertainment and commentary on social issues started out as a manager with the station, before dedicating himself solely to hosting.

He currently hosts The Dance Rock on Saturdays between 7 and 10pm, The Sunday Sunshine which predominantly promotes authentic Jamaican gospel music from 10am-2pm on Sundays and The Jam, Mondays and Tuesdays from 2pm to 6pm. An adept music producer, Big A is credited with giving some of the biggest names in music their big break.

Meanwhile, veteran entertainers Nadine Sutherland, Admiral Bailey and dancehall icons Beenie Man and Bounty Killer will be awarded with the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Officer for their contribution to the development of Jamaican music with Beenie and Bounty being recognized specifically for their contribution to dancehall.

The awards will be presented on Heroes’ Day, October 21 in a ceremony at Kings House.
