Garrison Hawk

While he considers himself a dancehall artist, Garrison Hawk has no prejudice when it comes to music. So, when producers at Most Wanted Records approached him to record a song on their soca-flavored Inviting Riddim 2nd Edition, he was ready.

The Inviting Riddim 2nd Edition compilation album was released in late June and has eight songs. Muscle Control is his contribution to the project.

“It’s my first time on a calypso-type beat, because usually I like melodic flavors. I’m an artist who  does all genres of music. My influences are Shabba Ranks, Peter Tosh, Delroy Wilson, an’ U Roy. I like challenges and like to combine music,” said Garrison Hawk.

Born in rural Manchester parish, central Jamaica, Garrison Hawk migrated to the United States at age 16. He launched his recording career the following year, and has since dabbled in traditional reggae, dancehall, hip hop and alternative rock.

He has recorded songs for producers such as Sly and Robbie and Bobby Digital, as well as done collaborations with Beenie Man, Wayne Marshall and Elephant Man.

Although Muscle Control marks his soca debut, Garrison Hawk has a lot of respect for the genre’s biggest name.

“I like the themes that Machel Montano has brought to calypso which is a pop/soca mix. I like to see music on a world stage,” he said.

The Inviting Riddim (2nd Edition) also has songs by KipRich, Dancehall Police, Banging, Izrel, QQ and Ras Ajai.
