As someone who never learned to read or write properly until he was 10 years-old, dub poet Richie Innocent is determined to help expose like-minded artists to a wide audience. On September 28, he headlines Richie Innocent & Friends at VP Records headquarters in Queens, New York.

“The concept of this event is to create a unique space where dub poets and other creatives can share their thoughts, observations, and energy with poetry lovers and enthusiasts. It’s an opportunity for artists to engage with an audience that appreciates this powerful art form, which continuously challenges social norms and touches people’s hearts, minds, and souls. Our message is unity and love, the glue that binds us together,” said Richie Innocent.

Maxwanette A Poetess, Marcia Jackson, Judith Falloon-Reid, Marjorie Walters, Vachikepwe di Poet and VP REcords matriarch Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin are also scheduled to perform on Richie Innocent & Friends which will be hosted by Sharon Gordon and co-promoted by Cyber Leaf Entertainment.

Vachikepwe di Poet, who is from Zimbabwe, encouraged Richie Innocent to stage an event where poets can express themselves.

“The idea was born out of a conversation with my wife at the launch of my first poetry book, Perseverance, at VP Records in February. I spoke with Vachikepwe di Poet, who highlighted the importance of gathering in New York City to share our art. My wife and I realized that this would be an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow writers, showcase our work, and engage in meaningful conversations with our audience through book signings and performances,” Richie Innocent explained.
