The Coalition to Preserve Reggae Music (CPR) will present veteran singer Johnny Osbourne with its Pinnacle Award for Excellence at Reggae Culture Salute, on Saturday, November 2nd in recognition of a stellar career spanning more than five decades. A witness to the evolution of Jamaican music, Johnny Osbourne has participated in the roll out of reggae, dancehall and digital music and continues to enjoy great success in his career.
Reggae Culture Salute, which commemorates the coronation of H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I and Empress Menen of Ethiopia, highlighting the organic relationship between reggae, Rastafari, Emperor Selassie and Jamaica, is a celebration of all things reggae. This year’s event pays tribute to Dennis Brown, the Crown Prince of Reggae, who did a cover version of Johnny’s debut recording, All I Have is Love on a Tribute to Studio One compilation album. Paying tribute to Dennis will be singers, musicians, poets and dancers whose careers intersect with Dennis’ and Johnny will join in paying tribute to Dennis as well as H.I.M.
Reggae Culture Salute takes place at Brooklyn’s Crown Hill Theatre, 750 Nostrand Avenue, beginning at 7PM with music provided by Jah Wise (Tippatone) and continuing at 8PM with a salute to H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I, followed by the Promised Land tribute to Dennis Brown.
